To Each His Own

“Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth.” –Albert Einstein. We always believe everyone and everything in the whole universe follows the same rule as each of us. And we believe that the person sitting next to us think like us. Why else would the Bible say God created man in his own image? Because almost all of us are incapable of imagining beyond us. For the same reason we judge others based on our own view of ourselves. We also always imagine aliens having hands and feet, with their brain in their heads which would always be on top of the torso. Now isn’t it possible that the alien may not have a head and instead of a brain, it might have its some other part doing the job, or it may even have each of its …

Lookout, the future is changing

I am becoming inactive again, not because I did not want to write or not because I had nothing to write. In fact during the past month there were quite a few things that impressed me that I wanted to write so much about it. Unfortunately, the past month was one of the most interesting as well as one of the busiest month I have had in a long time. One of the most important events in my life last month was the realization that we are at a crossroad that is going to determine our long-term future, in a big way. I am sure each of our action determines what is going to happen in the future, but some events make much more difference than the others do. In India, the Prime Minister is trying to persuade the Communist Party to support him in the nuclear deal with the …

Two Girls Cross LOC to Escape Forced Marriage

I am late to sleep and I got to go to work in 6 hours. But when I was about to sleep I remembered this news item I read earlier today at work. How would two Muslim girls from Pakistan feel when men, that too of the Indian Army, surround them? They ran away from home to escape from a forced marriage, but they might end up in prison for treason or might be forced to marry. What would they be thinking while awaiting their fate? When they ran away, they could have gone of to anywhere but they chose to cross the LOC to reach India, hoping for help. They must have heard good things, and now they must be scared, and might probably wish they were dead, because after they are turned over to the Pakistani Army, even if they are freed, their lives would effectively be over. …

Quit India Notice given to foreigners

India is has been sitting on the wall as far as the Tibet issue is concerned. While it could not anger the international government and its own voters, it has been reluctant to do anything that would cause a strain on Indo-China relationship. Strange that China does not feel the same way. China does not feel shy when it wants to show its strength or rebuke India and the world community. It is sad to see that successive Indian government going weaker and weaker in the knees. While India has tried it best to avoid making a statement supporting Tibet, it has made sure that the residents in India do not anger the Chinese too much. But China claims India is not doing enough. Recent development shows India is not concerned about the international opinion. But it is certainly concerned about the opinion of voters. The government has allowed peaceful …

Rich man’s mobile

India is getting ready for 3G and I am waiting for N82 Black. I have to say I really surprise myself occasionally with my timing. I have been putting off buying a high-end cell phone because the features offered were not ‘mature’ enough. The camera was never a criteria, because without optical zoom it is next to impossible to take decent pictures at a distance. The last model I opted for was a second hand N-Gage. And when I decide to upgrade India is getting ready for 3G. I was quite impressed with the features offered with N82, and the price isn’t too expensive. Wi-Fi, GPS, large capacity, 3G ready… it is an impressive list and yes, it has a 5-mega pixel camera. I would have passed it and stayed on with my 10x optical zoom camera, except for the geo-tagging feature. But then, we aren’t talking about my views …

India blamed for food shortage, really?

“Bush theory rubbished”, that was the first headline I saw when I went to get some tea today morning. Reading further, I quote from the Sunday Express, “US President George W Bush joined Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in blaming the rising prosperity of India’s huge middle class for the spiralling(sic) global food prices”. So it really wasn’t Bush’s theory. Give credit where it is due, won’t you? But that incensed me, how could anyone blame us Indian middle class (and the Chinese)for making more money and spending it on food, does the rest of the world want us to be under nourished just because they didn’t want to spend more? I decided to dig deeper, and was I surprised! What did he say?He said there was scarcity in the world. He said there is no scarcity in USA, but it was costing Americans more to feed themselves, but Americans …
