Until No Child Is Wronged

Afghan Girl

I don’t think everyone is meant to marry. No, not everyone should not be allowed to marry! When I look around I see so many kids who have got a bad life just because their parents didn’t know how to raise a kid. There are those who abuse kids, mentally, physically, emotionally and sometimes sexualy. I am sure most people think that physical and sexual abuse is more frequent, but most children go through a lot of emotional and mental torture throughout their childhood. They just learn to cope with it. After all, that is what you would go through your entire life. Maybe it isn’t abuse, but the induction to real world. If you are to grow up in a world were you will be tortured through never ending tests and trials which will emotionally and mentally drain you, what is a small dose at a younger age? In a world were you …

Pole Star

The thing about “pole star” is they are always there, hardly moving, a compass, guide. I spend a lot of time with my grandmother as a child and she was quite a story teller. I guess raising 9 kids would automatically give you a doctorate in story telling. One of the stories that she repeated a few times were about a mother and her son. In the story the son stole a pencil or an eraser, I am not sure, and took it home. The mother did not reprimand him. I am not sure if she encouraged it, but I am going to take some liberty and say that she didn’t encourage him to do it again. The next time he stole something else, and he grew up to be a thief, a pretty notorious one at that. In time he was caught, found guilty and sent to the gallows. He had probably killed …

Music of a different note

When I was a kid, me and my cousin used to spend our vacations at my grandparents home. My grandparents lived in a village with more than 2 acres of land surrounding their house. The house was built spot in the middle of the land. The road, or lack of it, leading to the house was quite narrow and you could say it was almost a ditch. But once you were past that narrow walls, you entered a wide open space, a magical land. Countless days were spend there exploring, climbing trees and hills, excavating for hidden treasures, even hunting lion! You really should read my cousin’s account of that particular adventure. I could go on and on about the adventures we had, but I just wanted to let you know how isolated a place it was. There was a time when we didn’t have television there and by nightfall, we …

Child labour to combat child marriage?

As the eldest child, I have always wondered how my life would have been with an elder brother or sister. I would have preferred a sister. I don’t need anyone to teach me how to be naughty, and definitely don’t want a big brother stopping me from doing what I want to do. Trust me, if that imaginary brother was anything like I am, there would be constant fight. An elder sister on the other hand would have been great. I won’t have to worry about her stopping me from doing anything, but I can depend on some sound advice and comfort whenever I need it. But, it could be the other way too. But that is hypothetical. It is strange for me to think about such things, but I happened to think of someone, and that triggered these thoughts. The person I thought about was the closest I had …

Happy Birthday

It was my friend’s birthday yesterday. There are friends who you remember when you see them, there are a few who you forget once you part, and then there are those really rare ones who you cant forget even years later. She is such a friend. I have not seen or heard from her in the past nine years, but year after year, I think of her on her birthday. I am sure she has changed a lot by now, but for me, she is still that 15-year-old girl, and that is how she is going to remain for the rest of my life. If I could go back and change my life, I would have made sure that we were friends, and had remained in touch. Unfortunately, I do not know where she is, what she is doing and I am sure that she does not remember me at …
