What am I looking forward to

All of us want more than we got, because that is human nature. I am no different, after all I am but a mortal. These are some of the things I look forward to in the immediate future. Fly my RC Plane; a Cessna 182 from Parkflyers Travel a bit, but I sure hope I will get time off from work for that. At work I am looking forward to my new lab machine. (i7, 4-8GB RAM, probably raided). At an intellectual level, I am hoping to learn new things. I am also hoping to blog more regularly. Not just a response to postaday2011 challenge, but real posts where I have put in a lot of thought. This post in is a response to the postaday2011 challenge.

My Final Hour

If I were to be told that I only had an hour to live I would write down my usernames and passwords to some important sites and send a delayed email to my most trusted friend so that he can send one last update on my behalf to all my contacts. I would also leave instructions about a few special messages to be passed on to a few people. He/she will be executor my my last will and this will be the last time I will trouble him or her. I would not spend the entire 60 minutes for that. I would need some time for the final preparation. In case the final hour was the final hour of the human civilization, then I would not bother about a last will. I would go straight to the final preparation. The last precious moments will not be spend saying good-bye. I would …

I am but a mortal

Everyone that I have come into contact with has made a difference in my life, without anyone ever knowing about it. Then there are those who made a difference to everyones lives. Take any personality that you have heard of from a few different sources, word of mouth, television, newspaper; they all have made an impact on a lot of people. Then there are those people who are known for a specific reason, a movie star, sports icon, business tycoon, politician. They have become a part of our lives and a part of human history. Most of us wish that we were rich/famous or important as those celebrities, we wish our names were remembered for generations and when people spoke of us, they spoke with awe and respect. I am human and I too wish for it, sometimes. But there are moments of clarity when I realize how unimportant I …

Success of a good educational system

I remember when I was learning the multiplication tables I used recite it. It was like a poem, a lot of words (numbers) that somehow rhymed. Even the teachers taught everyone to sing the multiplication tables. My father stopped me and showed me how the numbers related to each other and the symbols (x and +) caused a change the relation. For eg: 2×2 would translate to 2+2 2×3 would translate to 2+2+2 The teachers probably felt that teaching this to 50+ students would be a bit difficult, considering the short attention span of the kids and the amount of time that needs to be invested. Compared to that, teaching the kids to sing multiplication table would be very easy. I would say I was lucky. Unfortunately, kids learn the answers but they won’t learn how they got to that answer. Over the years, the intelligence of these kids will …

Google Friendconnect disabled

A few of you might have noticed that I was using Google Friend Connect as a commenting system. It meant I had to go to www.google.com/friendconnect each time to moderate a comment. I had some misgiving about it since it was splitting the posts from its comments. But I still stayed with it because I didn’t want to make any changes. However, I had to change it today as I noticed that any trackbacks I received was not being displayed as the commending system was different from WordPress and one which didn’t support trackbacks. I have disabled Google Friend Connect from being used for comment; you can still use it to log in and leave a comment; you can also use your Gravatar ID, wordpress.com ID or you can just put in your name, email and website (if you have one) to leave a comment. The downside is I will …

My Recent Aha! moment

Topic: Describe a recent Aha! moment | The Daily Post at WordPress.com. It is quite funny that WordPress decided to choose this as a topic for today, because I had an Aha! moment a while back; when I realized that the posts I make with the tags postaday2011 and postaweek2011 will not appear in Global Tag Surfer of wordpress.com since it will take those tags only from blogs hosted on wordpress.com When I came upon this campaign from WordPress I was pretty excited since there was a collective effort from thousands of people to post at least 1 blog entry a day or a week. Anyone who looks at my posting history will be able to see that is one thing that I have failed to do. All the while I had wordpress installed I had thought that my tags were being tracked by wordpress, and I was surprised to see that my recent tags were not being …
