Music of a different note

When I was a kid, me and my cousin used to spend our vacations at my grandparents home. My grandparents lived in a village with more than 2 acres of land surrounding their house. The house was built spot in the middle of the land. The road, or lack of it, leading to the house was quite narrow and you could say it was almost a ditch. But once you were past that narrow walls, you entered a wide open space, a magical land. Countless days were spend there exploring, climbing trees and hills, excavating for hidden treasures, even hunting lion! You really should read my cousin’s account of that particular adventure. I could go on and on about the adventures we had, but I just wanted to let you know how isolated a place it was. There was a time when we didn’t have television there and by nightfall, we …

Changing gears

I had a busy week; I had an interesting week. I have been busy with work, and for some reason, I am sleeping more these days and I really want to know why. Problem is, with the extended period of sleep and with a busy work schedule, my blog posting routine has gone for a toss. I used to come back from work, read through some blog posts, and then write one. And on top of this, I had an urge to read some books of Jeffrey Archer, which I had read before, quite a few times. Maybe I should tag this under postaweek2011 instead of postaday2011. Update: I installed Ubuntu, again. But this time I installed it as a virtual machine, which means I won’t have to reboot my computer to switch between Windows and Ubuntu. Rant: I hate it when people go out of their way to get …

Auld Lang Syne

I just realized today that one of my oldest friend does not remember me. I really can’t blame any of my old friends if they have forgotten me, because I have don’t remember many of them. Unfortunately, those I have forgotten seem to remember me, and those I remember have forgotten me, with a some exceptions. It is really strange that you those who influence you are the ones who forget you. I guess it may have something to do with the fact that in some way or other, there is an inequality, a yardstick by which we are measured in each others mind. Meteors are small celestial bodies which are attracted by stars and revolve around them in a highly elliptical orbit. Many planets and other celestial bodies might influence them, but it is mostly the star that decides the orbit. However, their influence over the star in negligible, if at all it …

Invites to Quora

I have invites for Quora, a social search site launched earlier this year by a bunch of ex-Facebookers (including former CTO Adam D’Angelo andCharlie Cheever (who previously led Facebook Platform and Facebook Connect)–and which was just funded at an $86M valuation. If you would like an invite to Quora, just ask for in the comment. Make sure you are putting your correct e-mail address in the e-mail field so that I know where to send the invite to. If you put your email address in the comments, you might get an invite from some generous fellow, but you might get a lot of spam from even more generous fellows. You will have to use either your Facebook or Twitter account to authenticate to Quora first time. To make my life easier, I have created the following form. This will ensure your email stays out of public eyes and I don’t have to copy …

Two in the bush

I would be the first to agree that I have made a lot of bad choices in my life. I am sure everyone would love to hear the long list, (who wouldn’t) 😉 but I am not going to go into that. I have wondered how it would be if life had a rewind button. We could all go back in time and change our mistakes. But then, if everyone did that then that would mess up everything. Who knows, someone might go back in time and kill you. That is why I felt that only I should have that kind of power, you know, because I am the only one who could be trusted with such powers. Seriously!!! Now if I did have such powers, even if it for one hour, wouldn’t that be awesome? I could go back in time and advice myself on some lottery numbers, or …

Looking back

I am going to cheat on postaday2011 by rehashing my old post. I was arguing with a friend about when I got Gmail. I had the date around the end of May. Today I checked an old post and found that I had blogged on 9th June after finally getting my Gmail account. He had claimed he had it before 2004 which I knew was not possible. Wikipedia confirmed that Gmail was launched as an invitation only beta on 1st of April, 2004. Why am I not posting anything new? When I started blogging it was just cursorily about the new medium whereby you create your own website instantly. This was long back, when GeoCities where considered great for hosting websites (It offered 5 MB of storage) I was studying at that time, (mid to late 2000) and the blog was at Soon it lost its novelty and I stopped blogging for a …
