Reviewing 2011

Rails

Just like that, 2011 is over. What happened the past year? It went so fast I can’t believe a whole year went without making much of a mark in my life. This is what I got when I took stock of my life last year.Blogging Sometime in the beginning of the year, I vowed that I would post every day. That was a promise I could not keep, and to some extend didn’t want to keep. Out of the 37 posts that I did last year, only a handful of them were what I would consider as real post. Most of the time, I was writing something just because I had committed to do so. Some of these are worth maybe a tweet or maybe a wallpost, but not a blog post. And so I stopped the postaday campaign and reverted back to posting when I had something to post and …

God and Me

Thinking

Most people feel that I don’t believe in God and I wouldn’t blame them. Truth is, I have never given anyone a reason to think otherwise. I don’t consider myself as an atheist, and I have often said I am agnostic. But that isn’t entirely true either. I don’t believe God in the conventional sense. Let me break it down further. Creator of the universe Most religions consider their God to be the creator of all, whether it is visible or invisible, living or lifeless, observed or perceived phenomenon. But there seems to be a contradiction with such an assumption. Is God a singular entity that does not confirm to the universe? If we were to assume that to be true, then what is the source that created God or made God, God. If such a singular entity was created why can’t it happen again? If there is such a source, then …

Big Three-O

ripple

I turned 30 recently… Older, wiser, better… with a bit of grey hair. I don’t care much about celebrating my birthdays, and this was no different. Yet, there was something about this particular birthday. It was the day I left my youth behind to face the world with maturity that comes with age, and hopefully with more patience. A point in time where I should leave some habits and traits that I have acquired over the last 10 years which doesn’t fit me any more. These are not usually sudden changes that you make, but these are changes that I hope to make. Some might not agree that 29 is youth and might say 21 or 24 to be the cut off age to be considered as youth. Well, all I can say is, I just realized that I have to live my age. There are some who think they are part …

Who Killed Evolution

I have written a few posts about evolution in the past, and I had blamed us humans for standing in the way of evolution. I blamed humans of killing evolution by inventing the institution of marriage. I also blamed us for changing the rules of the game, from survival of the fittest to survival of the richest. Then I went ahead and blamed us for protecting the weak thereby contaminating the gene-pool. What about the time when I said humans bangaloored evolution by inventing tools to overcome their limitation. I had however put a disclaimer at the bottom of almost all of those posts and am I glad I had done that. I knew there were too many things I didn’t know. But yesterday when I was at work I realized that why evolution came to a sudden standstill, and this time, I can’t blame us humans for it; at least not directly. We come …

Currency Of Civilization

World Currency

I have long held on to the belief that the purpose of life is not to earn money. Money was invented to facilitate transactions. Unfortunately it has become a measure of success. I am not against someone making millions, but the purpose of life is more than that. The following sentence has been nagging me for months and I have been trying to put my thoughts into words with little success. Knowledge should be the currency of a matured, intelligent civilization. Chasing wealth is a never-ending quest; some will do it till they die, and some will give up and start enjoying their life. Invention of Zero has made it possible for us to comprehend how little wealth we have. Is it possible to measure what you have with something that can’t be measured? Isn’t that we are trying to do when we try to increase our net worth? Quality …

Why machines will overtake humans

I am a huge fan of Sci-Fi and there are quite a few posts on my blog where I refer to Doctor Who, Star Trek and other Sci-Fi series. But just because I like those TV shows, does not mean I believe everything in it. However, watching those has expanded the horizons of my mind. One of the questions I have wondered about is will robots and computers overtake mankind? I came across this post, Why machines will never overtake Humans? from Akshat Goel where he stated his view on the same. Some of the points that he mentioned helped me in forming my own opinion on the same and as usual I have a different view on things. He thought about this because of a movie that he saw, but I am not going to dissect the movie. But I will say this much. I don’t consider it to be …
