Here are some interesting news that I read online recently. Hope you like this tiny digest. Siri For iPhone That is one of the hottest news in tech world. A virtual assistant that can not only talk back to you, but do it with a certain amount of (Artificial) Intelligence. That is the dream of every Geek. Siri (pronounced /ˈsɪri/) is a personal assistant application for iOS. The application uses natural language processing to answer questions, make recommendations, and perform actions by delegating requests to an expanding set of web services. Siri claims that the software adapts to the user’s individual preferences over time and personalizes results, as well as accomplishing tasks such as making dinner reservations and reserving a cab.[1] via Siri (software) – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Unfortunately, I don’t have Apple, and I prefer my Android phone and after some digging I came up with a few interesting applications …

Diaspora – Invite

Diaspora is not something that someone built after Google Plus. If anything, it has been around from the beginning of the year. Diaspora is a decentralized social network. It is not hosted on one server or on servers owned by a company like Google or Facebook. If you want you can host it on your own server, and get your family to join, maybe a few friends too. If you happen to have a killer domain name, you might end up with thousands of users. The server version that you can install on your own server has been available from the beginning of the year and there are many servers available which will allow you to join Diaspora. However, the developers have made the platform available on their servers too. So you already have Facebook and most probably have Google+, what can you get from Diaspora that you can’t from either …

Google Plus Invites

So the big news out there is Google Plus with quite a few people trying to get an invite. This time around the rush is not as big as Gmail or Wave, but it is still there and from the looks of it, Google is not restricting invitation as it did previously. I did get my invitation and I am in the process of inviting those I know to Google Plus. Would you like an invitation? Post a comment and I will hook you up with one. Before you ask for an invite. Here are the two things you should know before you ask for an invite. Google Plus works only with Google accounts that have an active Google profile. If you haven’ t created your Google profile yet, you won’t be able to sign up for Google Plus. You can create a Google Profile by going to http://profiles.google.com …

Why machines will overtake humans

I am a huge fan of Sci-Fi and there are quite a few posts on my blog where I refer to Doctor Who, Star Trek and other Sci-Fi series. But just because I like those TV shows, does not mean I believe everything in it. However, watching those has expanded the horizons of my mind. One of the questions I have wondered about is will robots and computers overtake mankind? I came across this post, Why machines will never overtake Humans? from Akshat Goel where he stated his view on the same. Some of the points that he mentioned helped me in forming my own opinion on the same and as usual I have a different view on things. He thought about this because of a movie that he saw, but I am not going to dissect the movie. But I will say this much. I don’t consider it to be …

Install Gingerbread on NexusOne without waiting for OTA update

Google has made Gingerbread available for NexusOne and if don’t mind waiting a “few weeks” before you receive the “over the air” (OTA) update you probably don’t have to read further. Unfortunately, I have been waiting impatiently for GingerBread update and I can’t wait any further.   At the moment of writing, my NexusOne is rebooting after installing the update (fingers crossed). And jut to be clear, my phone has not been rooted, and what I am going to suggest is not illegal and is not going to void your warranty, whatever is left of it. I have not mentioned Nexus S as I have not tired the steps, but you will find the steps almost similar and other posts for Nexus S. 1. First you need to download the update from the Google server. Download Gingerbread for NexusOne 2. Rename the file. The original file that you download will be named …

DoFollow Enabled

Over the last week, this blog has gone through some subtle but drastic changes. The changes were done with a few things in mind that will improve your experience on my blog. Faster loading: One of the feature that was removed from the blog was drag-to-share from Meebo. Previously you could select a few text or click and hold an image to share a post on Twitter, Facebook, e-mail etc. But this was not a feature that would be used often. The Meebo bar at the bottom of the page was also scrapped. A site which loads faster is better than a feature that is seldom used. Previously the home page would take about 12-13 seconds to load. By removing certain features which were not used that often, I was able to bring down the load time to just above 7 minutes. My blog is now 40% faster.   Link Luv: …
