Good bye Fakebook

Fakebook

I logged out of Facebook, not just closed the tab, but logged out. If I need to check Facebook, I have to log back in instead of just opening the page. Facebook is a place where you meet fake friends and I’m tired of all the people who doesn’t care about me. I know, I’m a lonely person. Any idiot can have opinion on anything. I know, because I have. But on Facebook, even those idiots who are incapable of having a coherent thought can copy half-baked thoughts from someone else, a photoshopped picture would attract those mindless nitwits faster than honey attracts honeybees. I wouldn’t mind it so much, if they had the ability to listen to reason and correct themselves. Those handful of people who I consider friends don’t need Facebook to contact me and I don’t need facebook to remember their birthdays. I would probably log in …

Reviewing 2011

Rails

Just like that, 2011 is over. What happened the past year? It went so fast I can’t believe a whole year went without making much of a mark in my life. This is what I got when I took stock of my life last year.Blogging Sometime in the beginning of the year, I vowed that I would post every day. That was a promise I could not keep, and to some extend didn’t want to keep. Out of the 37 posts that I did last year, only a handful of them were what I would consider as real post. Most of the time, I was writing something just because I had committed to do so. Some of these are worth maybe a tweet or maybe a wallpost, but not a blog post. And so I stopped the postaday campaign and reverted back to posting when I had something to post and …

What If – Selective Telepathic Mutation

What if… A genetic mutation allowed humans to communicate telepathically? – wait, there is a catch. You will have a predefined pool of 10 people with whom you can communicate. But the actual question is, would you rather marry someone with whom you are linked telepathically or someone who is telepathically linked with 10 other people, but not you? Some might argue that two people who are attuned to each other are likely to be together, and some might argue that mystery is what would keep them together. Hypothetically, if you are so in sync with another person, it might be impossible to get a tickle response from that person. It is possible that at first we might live with it because of how convenient it is, but would that kill what we call love? I read a Sci-FI where a few humans had gone to a distant planet. The …

Who Killed Evolution

I have written a few posts about evolution in the past, and I had blamed us humans for standing in the way of evolution. I blamed humans of killing evolution by inventing the institution of marriage. I also blamed us for changing the rules of the game, from survival of the fittest to survival of the richest. Then I went ahead and blamed us for protecting the weak thereby contaminating the gene-pool. What about the time when I said humans bangaloored evolution by inventing tools to overcome their limitation. I had however put a disclaimer at the bottom of almost all of those posts and am I glad I had done that. I knew there were too many things I didn’t know. But yesterday when I was at work I realized that why evolution came to a sudden standstill, and this time, I can’t blame us humans for it; at least not directly. We come …

Currency Of Civilization

World Currency

I have long held on to the belief that the purpose of life is not to earn money. Money was invented to facilitate transactions. Unfortunately it has become a measure of success. I am not against someone making millions, but the purpose of life is more than that. The following sentence has been nagging me for months and I have been trying to put my thoughts into words with little success. Knowledge should be the currency of a matured, intelligent civilization. Chasing wealth is a never-ending quest; some will do it till they die, and some will give up and start enjoying their life. Invention of Zero has made it possible for us to comprehend how little wealth we have. Is it possible to measure what you have with something that can’t be measured? Isn’t that we are trying to do when we try to increase our net worth? Quality …

Pole Star

The thing about “pole star” is they are always there, hardly moving, a compass, guide. I spend a lot of time with my grandmother as a child and she was quite a story teller. I guess raising 9 kids would automatically give you a doctorate in story telling. One of the stories that she repeated a few times were about a mother and her son. In the story the son stole a pencil or an eraser, I am not sure, and took it home. The mother did not reprimand him. I am not sure if she encouraged it, but I am going to take some liberty and say that she didn’t encourage him to do it again. The next time he stole something else, and he grew up to be a thief, a pretty notorious one at that. In time he was caught, found guilty and sent to the gallows. He had probably killed …
