I write ideas that strike me, sometimes just to remember them later, and just once in a while, you might find something useful. :-)

Two in the bush

I would be the first to agree that I have made a lot of bad choices in my life. I am sure everyone would love to hear the long list, (who wouldn’t) čśë but I am not going to go into that. I have wondered how it would be if life had a rewind button. We could all go back in time and change our mistakes. But then, if everyone did that then that would mess up everything. Who knows, someone might go back in time and kill you. That is why I felt that only I should have that kind of power, you know, because I am the only one who could be trusted with such powers. Seriously!!! Now if I did have such powers, even if it for one hour, wouldn’t that be awesome? I could go back in time and advice myself on some lottery numbers, or …

Looking back

I am going to cheat on postaday2011 by├é┬árehashing├é┬ámy old post. I was arguing with a friend about when I got Gmail. I had the date around the end of May. Today I checked an old post and found that I had blogged on 9th June after finally getting my Gmail account. He had claimed he had it before 2004 which I knew was not possible. Wikipedia confirmed that Gmail was launched as an invitation only beta on 1st of April, 2004. Why am I not posting anything new? When I started blogging it was just├é┬ácursorily├é┬áabout the new medium whereby you create your own website instantly. This was long back, when GeoCities where considered great for hosting websites (It offered 5 MB of storage) I was studying at that time, (mid to late 2000) and the blog was at Soon it lost its novelty and I stopped blogging for a …

What am I looking forward to

All of us want more than we got, because that is human nature. I am no different, after all I am but a mortal. These are some of the things I look forward to in the immediate future. Fly my RC Plane; a Cessna 182 from Parkflyers Travel a bit, but I sure hope I will get time off from work for that. At work I am looking forward to my new lab machine. (i7, 4-8GB RAM, probably raided). At an intellectual level, I am hoping to learn new things. I am also hoping to blog more regularly. Not just a response to postaday2011 challenge, but real posts where I have put in a lot of thought. This post in is a response to the postaday2011 challenge.

My Final Hour

If I were to be told that I only had an hour to live I would write down my usernames and passwords to some important sites and send a delayed email to my most trusted friend so that he can send one last update on my behalf to all my contacts. I would also leave instructions about a few special messages to be passed on to a few people. He/she will be executor my my last will and this will be the last time I will trouble him or her. I would not spend the entire 60 minutes for that. I would need some time for the final├é┬ápreparation. In case the final hour was the final hour of the human civilization, then I would not bother about a last will. I would go straight to the final preparation. The last precious moments will not be spend saying good-bye. I would …

I am but a mortal

Everyone that I have come into contact with has made a difference in my life, without anyone ever knowing about it. Then there are those who made a difference to everyones lives. Take any personality that you have heard of from a few different sources, word of mouth, television, newspaper; they all have made an impact on a lot of people. Then there are those people who are known for a specific reason, a movie star, sports icon, business tycoon, politician. They have become a part of our lives and a part of human history. Most of us wish that we were rich/famous or important as those celebrities, we wish our names were remembered for generations and when people spoke of us, they spoke with awe and respect. I am human and I too wish for it, sometimes. But there are moments of clarity when I realize how unimportant I …

Success of a good educational system

I remember when I was learning the multiplication tables I used recite it. It was like a poem, a lot of words (numbers) that somehow rhymed. Even the teachers taught everyone to sing the multiplication tables. My father stopped me and showed me how the numbers related to each other and the symbols (x and +) caused a change the relation. For eg: 2×2 would translate to 2+2 2×3 would translate to 2+2+2 The teachers probably felt that teaching this to 50+ students would be a bit difficult, considering the short attention span of the kids and the amount of time that needs to be invested. Compared to that, teaching the kids to sing multiplication table would be very easy. I would say I was lucky. Unfortunately, kids learn the answers but they won’t learn how they got to that answer. Over the years, the intelligence of these kids will …
