I write ideas that strike me, sometimes just to remember them later, and just once in a while, you might find something useful. :-)

Free Country, but what about the people?

They are the law. A group of lawyers beat up a ‘Dalit’ youth, because he did not want to marry the girl his lawyer relative had ‘suggested’. The incident was aired on CNN-IBN, with the video showing the lawyers beating the lad. The incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh, India and raised some serious questions. While the media is busy covering the incident, let me raise my own questions regarding it. Why was the youth labeled ‘Dalit’? For those who don’t know, Dalit is a lower caste according the caste system prevalent in India. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the person who wrote the Constitution of India was also a Dalit. Was the incident in U.P (Uttar Pradesh) a caste or religious issue? No, it was not. Then, why is the media so eager to highlight the caste of the youth in question? As far as I can ascertain, the lawyers in U.P …

To Fight or to Fold

PastGujarat (INDIA) is the land of Mahatma Gandhi who took to Satyagraha, the non-violence movement, as a weapon against the British to demand India’s freedom. PresentAnti-Piracy Antagonism Movement! The reseller community of Gujarat declared a one-day General Strike (notoriously known as Bandh in India) to protest against Microsoft for serving an anti-piracy notice to them.Seems Microsoft served a notice on a reseller for installing a pirated version of Windows. Now I am sure everyone would wonder what is wrong in that. I agree that piracy is common place in India, and with the high price that Microsoft charges on its software, Indians are not left with a lot of options. But how can you justify such an action. All Microsoft was trying to do was protect their interest. And to compare it with Satyagraha, that is a sacrilege. I don’t think Gandhi would have approved of it.I am sure everyone …

Adios Chennai, hello Bangalore.

I been planning on it for a long time, and at last I did it. I have left the dirty slums of Chennai behind and come to the over crowded city of Bangalore. Don’t get me wrong, Chennai is not that bad, there are some places in Chennai which is pretty neat, but when compared to Chennai the population in Bangalore is insignificant. But there are some things that everyone likes. For me it is good food, relatives and a little bit of civilization. At Bangalore everyone aspires to have a better life, whereas in Chennai, those who don’t get paid well seem to be resigned to their fate. They think that they are forever chained to poverty, and they imagine that those who earn better are not a part of their life. Still Bangalore is not home to me, not even a home away from home. I am just …

God’s Own Country

In response to The Compulsive Confessor. Kochi aka Cochin aka Ernakulam, my city, my home and the place I want to be for the rest of my life. Now if you think all three names are the same place then you will be disappointed to know that it is not. My cousin finds it amusing that a place can have three different names. Ernakulam is the district, but Ernakulam is not Cochin or Kochi. Kochi is a smaller area in Ernakulam. Cochin is just the old name, given by the British. Now the old name, Kochi has been restored, following the current trend. (Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata etc, etc.) And some others think that Kochi is a bad place to be. Nothing could be further from the truth. Kochi is as safe and as dangerous as any other place on Earth. I am of course not including those places like Iraq, …

I knew it was a mistake to register on technorati, or maybe it was a mistake to have any outbound link on my blog, or maybe not. I logged in today and “You have one comment to moderate”. The gates have been opened, and I hope there won’t be a flood, not very likely, maybe a few drops of rain in Sahara. And yea, it did rain in Sahara once in the early 20th century. Reliance problem

I remember once the ATM at my office was out of order, and someone had put a sign somewhat like this, I wish I had a camera to take a picture of that. Sorry Reliance problem Well, they used Reliance phone to connect the ATM to the bank. Now I wish I could put up a sign just like that on my Laptop and everywhere I visit on the web. I am using Reliance Datacard, Huawei, EC325, to connect to the internet. I been having problem with Reliance from the start. After connecting I won’t have any problem for a while, but then webpages would take ages to load, mind you, only webpags, no problem with downloads most of the time. I have called up Customer care so many times, and, as customer care goes, Reliance has the worst.Recently I downloaded new drivers and installed it, and installed Netbooster provided …
