I write ideas that strike me, sometimes just to remember them later, and just once in a while, you might find something useful. :-)

Google and gPhone

Continuing on my previous post on the gPhone, there are rumors that gPhone will cost around $100 and that it will be available in the first quarter of 2008. It is expected to be announced sometime next week or maybe the following week. An HTC employee is supposed to have leaked that the company is talking with Google and has around 20 prototypes that might become the gPhone. Maybe one, maybe quite a few. Bloggers have figured out that Google had bought a company that was developing a Linux based mobile operating system and hence it is likely that Google had purchased the company with the objective of creating a mobile operating system well integrated with its products. It is also said that the gPhone will have Wi-Fi capabilities, will be 3G enabled and will have a 3-inch display. It is unknown what kind of input system Google is planning …

Thank you

I was at my wits end, because I wanted to use Blogger instead of WordPress. But Blogger doesn’t support Trackbacks. I got to thank Singpolyma for the greasemonkey script which allows me to send trackback pings. I still can’t get incoming Tackbacks, and his suggestion was to use Haloscan. But due to certain constraints I don’t intend to do that. I will have to learn to survive with backlinks, I guess. And for those of you who want to install Trackback URL on Blogger head on to Singpolyma Thanks a lot Dude!

Enough of representative government, I want a participatory government

I remember a time, when I was taught political science, I was told that a participatory form of government is not realistic because no one would be able to come together and create decisions together at the same time. But that was ages ago, long before I first heard the term computer or Internet. That was a time when communication was primarily through “inland letters”, a time when phone calls were made to communicate urgent matters and that too limited to the affluent. The times have changed. This is the age of exit polls, of emails, social networks and SMSs. At a time when news channels can get the pulse of the nation by conducting polls and mobile service providers can get feedback on their service through SMS surveys, I don’t understand why I cant participate in the day to day working of the government through the same way. I …

gPhone, gGPS and gMaps

Rumor has it that Google would be announcing there ‘gPhone’ soon, probably sometime after September 3rd and the most authoritative source seems to be rizzn.com. What it will be is still a mystery. There are rumors that Google may just provide a platform for phone manufacturers, based on linux. But no one has yet ruled out an actual hardware from Google. Since I don’t have an inside contact in Google, I don’t have any first hand or groundbreaking information. But I have been poking around and I believe that Google will be entering into the cell space. Those who have checked Google Maps would have noticed that a lot of updates have gone into it. As far as India is concerned many major cities have been updated with street names, hospitals, schools and places of interest. Some streets are marked as one-way. Obviously Google is going to provide GPS in …

Famous Five are back?

A few websites have reported that Famous Five, the book we went to sleep with when we were kids, are going to come back on TV. There is also reports of an animated TV series. Check the reports here. They are older and Timmy has died; not to worry, he has a successor. I am sure there would be lot of people eager to watch it, but haven’t we grown out of it. Seeing the interest in Harry Potter, I guess there is still a kid in us. Let us see what they have cooked up, though I think many eager fans would be let down. Let us face it, kids solving crime is cute and five really is a crowd.
