I write ideas that strike me, sometimes just to remember them later, and just once in a while, you might find something useful. :-)

Mobile predicament

Yet another mobile number. Unfortunately, I couldn’t resist myself from buying a new SIM card. I already had a mobile number where I had national SMS @ 15 paise. But unfortunately, the call charges on that was really high. So when Airtel offered me a CUG connection, where the call rates were low, I purchased a new connection. The question is not whether it was a good idea to buy a new connection. The question is whether I should buy another mobile to keep my old number, so that I can SMS my friends. Life was a lot simpler when I was at Chennai where Hutch was giving all India STD at Re.1 and 10,000 free national SMS. Am I going to turn into one of those guys who always has a few cellphones in his pocket?

I have been using Facebook for quite some time, and Orkut for a really long time. While I had better luck finding my old classmates on Orkut, my experience with it was never thrilling. But on the other hand, Facebook is proving dearer to me with its flexibility. It is quite surprising that Orkut, a product of Google, which is known for their stand on open source and open access has failed to incorporate their corporate principles into Orkut, where as Facebook is doing exactly that. On Facebook I have been able to create a list of books I have read, is reading and want to read, which is visible to all my friends. I can get quotes from Calving & Hobbs or F.R.I.E.N.D.S or Thomas Jefferson. I can import my blog entries into my Facebook profile where it will be visible to my friends. Orkut has the same feature, …

Blog on Facebook

It took some time, but I was able to get my RSS feeds on my Facebook profile. It shouldn’t have been so hard, but a couple of things made it hard. I didn’t like any of the application on Facebook, and the one I felt I might like didn’t want to work. Only one thing was left to do, pull it on Notes application. But Notes would allow only 1 blog to be imported, and I wanted to import two. One is this blog and the other is my other blog where I give vent to my feelings and random thoughts. It is Lost in thought. I have been hearing about Yahoo Pipes and decided to try it out. I had already spent hours, and I was beginning to get frustrated. Pipes needed some getting used to. But considering its capabilities I think it is extremely user friendly, but a …

Yahoo Text

Good news is that my yahoo mail account is out of beta, but the bad news is that the much anticipated facility of sending message to mobile directly from mail interface does not seem to be working. I tried sending SMS to my Airtel number, and I am still waiting for it. Let me search through Yahoo help; maybe they have listed the supported networks. In the meantime, has anyone been successful in sending message to mobile, either to Airtel or to any other network? Let me know in comments. Update Yahoo does support Airtel in India. If they support then how come I am not receiving any SMS? Here is a list of supported networks. The catch is that you can message a number only four times. After that your friend has to send a reply before you can send messages to him. I think I will stick with …

Updates and plans

It is amazing how fast time passes us by, but still some things remains unchanged. A few months back, I had thought, things I thought important were not important and friends I thought close were not close. I had distanced myself with many of my friends because I couldn’t take the pain of losing them. Last week I saw a friend, and the emotions I felt were the same I had a few years back. I guess friends are still friends however long we haven’t talked. Back to the present, I know I have been quite absent from my blog for quite a while. There have been major updates going on with my life. I have returned to my home town where I am presently working, and frankly there hasn’t been many lonely moments when I felt like I needed to put my thoughts into words. Now, that is as …

Missing you

Hey, Surprised to get a mail from me? I’ll bet you are. I know you wouldn’t wonder who I am. I was reading some of the old mails that you had sent me, way back in 2003, 4 years back. Inseparable friends to 2 acquaintances who haven’t spoken in years. What happened? It was when I read those mails, I remembered how much we meant to each other, and that is why I know you wouldn’t have forgotten about me. I am sure you wouldn’t have thought about me in a long time, but, the moment you saw my mail, you would remember me. I am surprised that I am writing this mail, because long time back, I had decided to let go of everything, unless they stood by me without any effort from my part. Yea, it’s stupid. I know. And when I look at myself I realize that …
