Flyin’ on a wing an’ a prayer

by Sunil J

“Flyin’ on a wing an’ a prayer”.

I have had that tag for a long time now and I have no idea from where I got it. I think I started writing blog in the latter part of 2000 and since then, a lot of posts and a lot of blogs on various websites have been deleted.

I may write sporadically and my posts might hop across the whole spectrum of topics, but in my heart I am still flying through life; so fast I don’t know where I am, crippled; but airborne with just one wing, praying for a miracle; hoping life my on earth is not just a speck of sand in the winds of time, that it means a lot more. I doubt it, but then, that is the reason why I called it a miracle.

Sometimes I scare myself. Not by the speed of my bike, but by the ideas that emerge from my thoughts. These ideas are so wild, it would be laughed at by anyone, but they are so wild, I wonder if it could be true. It is like those horror movies you see. You know there aren’t any ghosts or spirits, but you can’t prove it, and somewhere in your mind you wonder…

Sometimes I depress myself, with thoughts that go on and on, leaving me with more questions than I started with.

That is why I am,

“Flyin’ on a wing an’ a prayer”.

“Full of broken thoughts that I cannot repair” -Johnny Cash
It happens to me too, at times when I feel like im at the top of a mountain and what scares me is not the height but the thoughts that race in my mind of the aftermath. We all experience this-at some point in our lives. What we need to do is brace ourselves because they are “our” thoughts- and we can push them away if we do not need them-I hope you got me. 🙂

I think I do,
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself?
Right?

HI Sunil,
Reminds me of my grandson who fly’s by the seat of his pants; but, that is not quite the name, is it?

It is not quite the same but at the same time similar in many ways. Deciding what needs to be done when you are faced with a situation could be either due to choice or helplessness.
I had chosen that tag line after a lot of thought, and at that point in my life I was feeling exactly like that. I felt as if it was a miracle that I hadn’t crashed in life already.
More than the helplessness that I mentioned earlier, there is a feeling of inability associated with the tag. Like digging a tunnel with a toothpick.
But in the end when you look at it, both give you almost similar result.
